An itinerant site specific performance piece At Oscarshall - the summer palace of the Queen of Norway
An event to discover the gardens and salons of Oscarshall through music, opera and dance.
The artists become the inhabitants of the venue. Dance, song and music bring to vibrant life both the exterior and interior of Oscarshall. A buoyant voyage through different art-forms, expressions, time and space. An experience of live performance which begin on the shore of the Oslo fjords at the base of the Opera house. A boat departs with the 99 guests. There are only 99 seats on the boat and the salons at the palace are sumptuously appointed yet intimate and space is restricted to 50 persons per salon.
Already on the boat ride from the opera to Oscarshall, the show has begun. The guests are treated to a welcome and songs while they enjoy the beautiful views along the water-way to the palace. They are greeted at the pier with a violinist and is guided to the next spot by a beautiful enchanted lady (dancer) where they enjoy more music by Cello and viola. The magic mounts as the guests mount the slight rise in the garden to passing tableaux vivant along the way to the main fountain. Here they enjoy a virtuoso violin with dancers twirling and spinning around the fountain in a rapturous abandon. A beautiful woman interrupts the dance enveloping the moment in a sultry song. The public is then divided and guided into two separate salons. They will each group enjoy an intimate moment of different combinations of the voice and the body. They are then guided to switch salons. The artists repeat but it is different because the people are different. The vibe is different. The both groups then re unite on the veranda and enjoy the finale. They are then guided back down the garden and to the waiting boat with sounds of song and mirth. The experience only ends when they disembark at the pier near the Opera House.A collaboration between the Norwegian Opera & Ballet and Oslo Kammermusikkfestival.
Concept and Direction by Patrick King: To present interdisciplinary live performances in a non conventional fashion, where both the public and performances move through and discover the premises, and the different art-forms are harmoniously and innovatively mixed without loosing their individual strength.
With artists from the National Opera & Ballet and international guests, the focus is on the human expression and its diversity and beauty. Art and emotions in a beautiful setting. The choreography seamlessly mixes ballet, neo-classical and contemporary movement expressions and the music played by string-quartet and piano takes its inspiration from the late romantic period.
The theme for this Experience is romantic LOVE
